CCR Inspiration #3 - Janka Reke
I have always admired the determination and passion of "collectors". Let it be stamps, fridge magnets or special wines, there is always a spark in their eyes when they talk about how they acquired an item of their collection.
A couple of years ago, I decided to become a collector myself; a collector of "countries visited". My short-term project is called "50 by 25", visiting 50 countries by the time I turn 25 (in 2020 October). My next destinations will be Albania, Macedonia, Kosovo and Poland, which will raise the count to 48 countries.
Visiting and immersing myself in the history, culture and traditions of so many diverse places enabled me to better understand the diversity on this beautiful planet. I admire how many nations have managed to find peace after years of turbulance and I am amazed by how much people are willing to give, where poverty is the norm. It seems comfortable to assess countries based on a couple of numbers and percentages, but I urge for more open-mindedness.
Seeing the professionalism of slum entrepreneurs in India or the innovative solutions of farmers in rural Rwanda made me question the teachings of Schumpeter and any other "Managing Innovation" class. It also taught me that anyone (even those without any knowledge of reading and writing) could bring about something new about solutions, business and strategic thinking.
Travelling, working and interacting with locals also showed me how similar we, humans are. At the end, we are all just trying to figure life out :) I hope the next years will bring even more special countries, learnings about different cultures and beautiful sunsets with new friends! I wish the same to all of you!
