Spanish cooking session for Sant Jordi’s day
***Event reserved to CEMS Students***
Sant Jordi ( Saint George ) is the patron saint of Catalonia , whose festival is celebrated on April 23rd.
This day, as a very traditional custom in Catalonia, all men give a red rose to women as a present , and women give a book to men. So it's popularly known the Day of Sant Jordi as the Catalans Lovers Day.
Today the tradition is not so strict, so it's not necesary to be in love , parents also tend to give a rose to their daughters or mothers are also giving books to their sons.

This custom comes from the beautiful legend of Sant Jordi .We explain you this legend bellow, to understand why this tradition began and what's the meaning of it.
The Sant Jordi legend. According to Catalan legend a terrible dragon was wreaking havoc among the animals and people of Montblanc village. To try to contain it, they decided to draw lots to see which one of them would be fed to the beast. One fine day the king’s daughter drew the short straw and would have died at the hands of the dragon, had Jordi the knight not appeared to confront and slay it. Tradition adds that a bush of red roses sprouted from its spilled blood.
It is the best day of the year to walk across the streets of Barcelona, but this year, we will make our own Sant Jordi by cooking a traditional Catalan and Spanish dinner with “Pà amb tomàquet” (bread with tomato) and Tortilla de Patatas (Spanish Omelette).
What it includes:
Spanish omelette and bread.
